"Dear Santa Letters"
Pictures from this event
History: During the past 3 years, the Chicago Chapter has awarded over
$12,000 in scholarship money to young men and women from the Chicagoland
area that chose to attend our beloved Alma Mater.
As an organization, we have selected two "Dear Santa" letters and want to make their wishes come true.
One family includes a teen parent (of 2 sons) who is currently getting her GED and looking for a job as
well as an apartment. The second family includes a single mother who does not have an income and was
unable to purchase anything for her 6 yr old daughter last Christmas. Each family has requested modest
gifts during the holiday season.
We invite you to participate with us in making this effort to help out those in need. In the spirit of
giving and of our alma mater, we will organize to purchase and deliver gifts to the authors of our letters
before Christmas. We are hoping that we can lean on each of you to pledge a donation of $10-$20 (or more)
to go towards the purchase and delivery of these gifts. Please notify the organization by responding to
Monica Triplett, Treasurer, at monica_triplett@sbcglobal.net indicating your pledge amount. Once your email
is received, you will be given a mailing address for your donation.
In order to send the gifts to the family prior to Christmas, we request that all donations be mailed in
by Friday, December 17, 2004. All checks should be made out to HUAA (Howard University Alumni Association).
Together we can make a positive impact on the less fortunate in our community. If you have any further
questions regarding this charitable activity, please email your concerns to huaachicago@yahoo.com.
